Japan Chill
This album, like the rest of the albums by Longshore, are the alter-ego of Mike Dion, using ideas, samples, loops and other musicians mostly from Europe.
The name Longshore stems from his upbringing in Philadelphia. Longshore is the street where he was raised.
The original notion came from Art Johnson, Mike's partner at ITI, and Mike to record other forms of music that could include jazz but would be based on international cultures and musical concepts. To this end, ITI has released Religious, Arabian, Dance, Hip Hop, Bollywood, Christmas, Viking, Chill, Reggae, Classical, Soundtrack, Meditation, and Thematic albums in the past.
Japan is the island country in East Asia, located in the Pacific Ocean off the northeast coast of the Asian mainland. Bordered to the west by the Sea of Japan and extends from the Sea of Okhotsk in the north to the East China Sea in the south.
The Japanese archipelago consists of four major islands alongside 14,121 smaller islands, covering 377,975 square kilometers. It's divided into 47 administrative prefectures and eight traditional regions.
About 75% of the country's terrain is mountainous and heavily forested, concentrating its agriculture and highly urbanized population along its eastern coastal plains.
To chill means to make something cold or to become cold. It can also refer to relaxing or calming down in a casual context.
Hence this music is a way to do just that!
