RUTH PRICE – “LUCKY TO BE ME” RE-RELEASE

Warrant Music and ITI Records are pleased to announce the resurgence (a rising again into life, activity, or prominence) of the ITI label after an absence of over twenty years.  That said we will be re-issuing digitally almost all of the prior album releases along with a 30th year Anniversary album shortly. ITI Records is also extremely excited that it will be releasing many new titles from the established list of former artists as well as new artists from Jazz, Blues and Pop genres.

Our second re-issue is by vocalist Ruth Price.  This album showcases her deep emotional voice along with Tom Garvin’s inseparable styling that has created a sentimental and heartfelt collection of tunes.  Growing up near Philadelphia, she was not shy from the world of jazz she was immersed into at a young age and has continued throughout the years with one exception, when she was married to Dave Grusin.  She has performed with Charlie Ventura, John Coltrane, Red Garland, Philly Joe Jones and Harry James at the Monterey Jazz Festival.  She also released earlier albums on the Kapp and Roost labels.

By the time she arrived in L.A., she began working with Shelly Manne and also worked on TV opposite Dick Van Dyke and the comedy team of Rowan and Martin.  Becoming part of the L.A.in-crowd she also appeared on the Tonight Show.

She has been noted during her career as “one of the best big band singers”, “an artist’s representation of the self”, “inherent good taste in her style and choice of material”, “Price delivers them with consuming intimacy”, and finally, “This disk is so fine”.

This album featured musicians include Tom Garvin on piano, Andy Simpkins on bass, Roy McCurdy on drums and Pete Christlieb on tenor sax.
