"Back to Back" Heard Rainer Ferguson

$13.98

Re-Released September 2012

Heard Ranier Ferguson is made up of John Heard on bass, Tom Ranier on keyboards and reeds.  This album was produced by Mike Dion and Mike Grantham in 1982.  It’s the only album by the three members.  Sherman has since passed away but was a formidable drummer in the jazz scene.  All three members were and are a who’s who in the jazz books.  John played with so many bands and groups that you’d have to find out who he didn’t play with: Hendricks, Lambert & Ross, Al Jarreau, Sonny Rollins, Wes Montgomery, Ahmad Jamal, Count Basie, George Duke, Louie Bellson, Oscar Peterson, Cal Tjader, Joe Williams, Nancy Wilson, Bobby Hutcherson, Eddie Lockjaw Davis, Buddy Montgomery, Charlie Byrd,  Bud Shank and Cleanhead Vinsonto name a few.  And Tom Ranier established a reputation primarily on piano as a jazz performer with vibe great Dave Pike, saxophonist Pete Christlieb, and co-led a band with drummer Sherman Ferguson and bassist John Heard. He has gone onto work with the Terry Gibbs-Buddy DeFranco Sextet, George Coleman, Lew Tabackin, Eddie Daniels, Lanny Morgan and long list of other jazz musicians. And his list of studio work for television, movies is quite extensive to include The Young and the Restless, Noises Off, Matlock, Diagnosis: Murder, Trial and Error, Letters from a Killer, Sideways. Perfect jazz idea of tradition and adventure.
